Gujab Momma Finds

Since becoming a mom, I’ve come to love natural, simple, effective AND affordable products. I find it unreasonable to use effective products that are way overbudget because I believe that God made effective solutions for us without costing too much (“My burden is light” nga eh.) Plus, it’s more sustainable as well for a growing family such as ours to be wise (not unnecessarily kuripot or frugal), which is why long-term efficacy is just as important as cost. So that being said, I’m always on the lookout for good, effective, natural (as much as possible) products that are priced reasonably. And when I find them, I feel my heart soar and I’m most eager to share them! For this reason, most of the products  in our bathroom and in our household are Human Heart Nature, because they’ve really found the best way to share their advocacy–which is to make it affordable!

Over the past several weeks I’ve also discovered some hot new products that are useful for me as a nursing mom, and for the family. Check out my latest finds:

  • Ilog Maria Propolis Gold propolisI’ve had bouts of colds threats over the last several weeks. Blame it on my lack of sleep. Just when I was feeling the headache and the colds, I took five drops of this for a few consecutive hours and by nighttime, I’m feeling fine. It’s like my little miracle in a bottle! It’s a natural probiotic and anti-oxidant. P121 for a 45mL bottle.
  • Sweet Delights by Charlotte sweet delightsI love these great-tasting galactogogue treats with no bitter after-taste. Plus she sells an assorted box containing four different treats so you don’t feel umay with the same sweet treat every day. I love her oatmeal cookies and the Blondies are the best! As for my milk supply, well, my two-month old wears three-to-six month old clothes already so yeah, my little one is getting more-than-adequate breastmilk! P460 for a one-week supply of sweet treats.
  • Sam Juan Nuts trail mix sam juansI’m hungry all the time. Probably because of nursing. So I need a healthier snack to keep hunger at bay. Sam Juan’s nuts contain roasted (without salt or oil) almonds, cashews, walnuts, raisins and dark chocolates, and they’re absolutely heavensent, especially to a hungry Momma late at night! Healthy and super delicious! And affordable at P170 for a 170 gram bag. Call or text for orders: 0995-4533770.
  • Naturific Coco Sugar   coco sugarWe’ve been using Coco Sugar for quite awhile now, and this is one of the most affordable suppliers I’ve found. I also buy organic pork tocino from Naturific. And the best part?  Fast delivery and their cash-on-delivery mode of payment make the experience  super convenient!
  • May’s Baked Goods  MaysOkay, her products are not the healthiest but if you’re craving for a sweet treat, she makes really good Chocolate Chip Cookies. My other favorite is her Oatmeal Cream Cheese Cookies and these treats are super affordable! Great for gifts too. P100 for a bag of Choco Chip cookies. Call/text 0906-3703870, 0919-9318733
  • Farmer’s Produce Extra Virgin Coconut Oil simple mamaCold-processed, 100% all-natural with no added chemicals. I taste the goodness in every teaspoon. We drink this straight up and mix this with my son’s rice (for protection and for help in digestion). This is one of the best and most affordable sources I’ve found. P400 for a 1-liter bottle.
  • Elin Nursing Wear  Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 5.52.18 PMBeautiful cuts and comfortable fabrics. I love that they use Rayon Spandex so it falls really nice on the body. The one I pictured here is my current favorite–makes my arms look slim and highlights the curve of my waist while covering the tummy pooch. It’s not the cheapest in the market; SM still carries some of the more inexpensive ones (by a couple of hundreds), but the way Elin make its tops and dresses really feels premium. Their website is user-friendly and ordering is a breeze–great for new moms who don’t have much time to go out or the luxury to go to a store and fit in a fitting room. Elin gives me the freedom to order online and exchange should the need arise. I’ll order here again definitely.

How This Preggy Momma Beats the Heat

With temperatures reaching 40 degrees in Metro Manila, coupled with the heated discussions over the upcoming National Elections, I’d say, it’s just been an ultra-hot several weeks, to say the least! Oh, and by the way, I’m nine months pregnant. So, I’m waddling, and my body temperature has increased from usual and I’m heavier by 46 pounds. Gaaah!

The reasons I’m not (always) cranky are: My husband and my Thermos insulated bottle. The former lets me turn on the AC whenever I feel too hot (even if we’ve had it on the whole night), drives me around and drops me off at the most convenient and covered entrance wherever it is we’re going, and encourages me to rest as much as possible, even during shoot days. I just follow when they’re done so I can regroup with our team (praise God for the love of my life!). The latter is a Thermos Travel/Office Tumbler that I carry around with me so I can have my ice cold water anytime. ThermosIt’s insulated (keeps my drink cold for 12 hours), has a wide mouth to fit ice cubes and is slim and light (though it carries 500 mL of liquid) so it fits in my bag. It’s pretty durable, too as I dropped it accidentally on the floor and nothing happened to it at all. The only downside is that it’s expensive. P1600 for a water bottle! Now, I wouldn’t normally spend this much on such a seemingly trivial thing, but making baon our own water has always been my thing to save on costs when we’re outside. Buying bottled water every now and then, and other drinks can add up pretty quickly when we’re outside and with the amount of water I drink (I drink a lot!), and the constant need to keep hydrated as per my midwife, I figured it’s worth the investment.

My Thermos fits inside my bag

So, I carry my Thermos with me everywhere and I keep on sipping ice-cold water wherever I am. My four-year old son noticed and started drinking from my bottle often, too. Which is good because he’s prone to have dry lips–I think he forgets to drink water and I tend to keep on reminding him. He loved drinking my ice-cold water so, I decided to buy an insulated bottle for him also. But I chose a smaller one so it fits in his small backpack. Anyway, we can always refill it even when we’re outside (just go to a restaurant and ask if they have complimentary filtered water–most do!). I just make sure I fill it up with ice cubes before we go. I found a good-sized one for him–a 350 mL Lock & Lock Heroes tumbler that is insulated too and is cheaper! Bought it for a discounted price of P899 in Lock & Lock, Shangri-La. It has a cute nuts and bolts design and the bottle is slim enough to fit in my son’s little hands. He likes filling it up himself and keeping it in his table so now, he’s drinking water all the time.  LnL Heroes

My husband has his trusty Lock & Lock Mountain Canteen that carries 1.1 Liters of water! The bottle itself is not insulated, but it comes with an insulated beltbag which he attaches around his waist so his ice-water stays cold for several hours. He used this on an outdoor shoot once and his frozen water stayed cold from dawn until pack-up time in the evening. We bought this for over P700 years ago at Lock & Lock, Shangri-La.

We all have our beat-the-heat stories and this preggy Momma is happy to share hers. After all, nothing can beat the sweltering heat with good ol’ ice-cold water, anytime, all the time! Haha. Pang-commercial 🙂 Keep cool, Mommas, Kiddos and Daddies!

*This is not a paid post. The writer just wanted to share her joy over her super-useful and sulit insulated bottles because guys…ang init!

Gettin’ On With My Purpose

I put up this blog because like many wives and moms, I got a lot on my plate. I produce videos with my husband, I’m trying to parent a four-year old as gracefully as I can (read: less Monster Momma moments), currently itching to improve our kitchen and study areas (nesting!), and I’m eight months pregnant.

Actually, let me rephrase my first statement: I put up this blog because I’m trying to balance and enjoy all of what’s on my plate right this very moment.

Just this afternoon, I was setting up this blog, writing my first article, an AVP script, and doing my best not to lose my patience with my son who was incessantly asking for scotch tape (for his little project–a birthday gift he was trying to wrap all by himself). There was no “relishing-mommyhood” moment right there; I was just stressed to the bone! Leading me to question if I was right in putting up this blog. And my answer is yes! All the more I should. Because I know I’m not the first or only Mommy to experience this crazy balancing act.

So after a refreshing shower, a quick rant to my husband (thank God he allowed me this quick indulgence), and a heartfelt talk with my son (I apologized to him for being angry), I realized I have to take stewardship of my to-do’s because they’re more than just commitments. They’re my gifts, my  personal passion “projects”, my “purpose-aligners”.

You see, in this season of my life, I’m made to be a wife, my husband’s ultimate lover and helper, which also translates to helping him produce films and videos. I’m created to be my son’s mommy and teacher, and my little girl’s caretaker (from womb onwards). I’m compelled to take care of my home. And as I’m called to be a video producer, I’m also cut out to be a writer. All these put together will help me fulfill God’s purposes for me on earth. All these I feel spurred on to do because God. My Provider is also my Purpose-Giver.

So, in honor and in thanks to my God, here goes my efforts in trying to manage all my life’s gifts. But more than that, I’m determined to enjoy them. Oh yes, through all the joy-stealers: Stress, pressure, fear. I’m not going to back down.

My "Purpose-Reminders" :)

My “Purpose-Reminders” 🙂

As if in response, my husband offered to take our son with him tomorrow as he runs his errands. Oh God, bless him! I’ll need that afternoon to find my footing–plan my schedule, to-do’s and finish some writing.

Tomorrow is a brand-new day and I can’t wait to start it. Goodnight, from one busy Momma to another!
